Grand
Marais United Methodist Church is over 100 years old, small
in membership (27 at present) and constantly struggling
to stay viable. The church is very important to its members
and to the community. But we are a church of retired folks
who are on fixed incomes. The average age is 75-80. The
fight to keep our doors open is constantly before us. If
they close, the closest United Methodist Church is 32 miles
away.
How
can you help us? First, if you are in the area at all, attend
one of our fundraisers. One quarter of our budget is raised
by our fundraisers and our little community of 350 persons
can’t do it all. Our fundraisers range from spaghetti dinners
and pastie sales to bake sales, pie sales, and ice cream
socials.
How
else can you help us? “Love gifts” are always welcome and
much appreciated. Perhaps you want to adopt us as your own
special mission. If you are another church, perhaps we could
be sister churches. We could host you to a wonderful visit
to the Upper Peninsula where you could see Pictured Rocks,
Taquamenon Falls and other joys of the U.P (Grand Marais
has many motels and a compground right in town) and you
could help us financially. If you can help us, send any
gifts to Box 268, Grand Marais, MI 49839.
